What is a Reply?

A reply is a legal pleading filed by the moving party that will attempt to refute the factual and legal arguments raised by the opposing party in the opposition to the motion. Often a reply will also attempt to strengthen the arguments made in the original motion. In some jurisdictions, reply papers are not required, but are optional.
