What is a Complaint/Petition?

A complaint, called a petition in some jurisdictions, is a pleading that initiates a lawsuit by setting forth claims for relief and a prayer for damages. The complaint alleges defendants’ wrongful conduct and sets forth plaintiff’s claims or causes of action.
