A motion to file under seal requests that the court order that certain documents in a lawsuit are not available for public inspection, but are only available to limited persons for a limited time in connection with the lawsuit. The information that parties seek to protect often includes business records and other business documents produced by parties on the basis that they constitute trade secrets and access to these could assist competitors and jeopardize business interests.
